Agave Spirits Wins at Agavos Awards
Proof that world-class Agave Spirits can come from north of the border!
We’re proud to share that our Connecticut-made Agave Spirits earned medals at the 2026 Agavos Awards, a tasting competition focused solely on honoring agave spirits the way they deserve. Every product entered into the competition is blind-tasted by judges with deep expertise and profound respect for the unique qualities of agave.
All of our Agave Spirits are distilled here at Litchfield Distillery from 100% Blue Agave Tequilana Weber nectar, which we import from farms located in and around Capilla de Guadalupe, Mexico. Our reposado-style agave spirits are aged in retired Litchfield Distillery bourbon casks, while our añejo-style expressions sometimes include new barrel aging in addition to resting in retired barrels.
Our Reposado Agave Spirits was awarded a Gold Medal.
Judges’ tasting notes: “There are those sweet scotch notes like caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, baked apple, pear, and lemon zest. Flavor is a continuation of the scotch whisky aromas with baked apple, pear, nutmeg, lemon zest, orange zest, and cinnamon. I like this. It drinks nicely.”
Our first release of Extra Añejo Agave Spirits earned a Silver Medal.
Judges’ tasting notes: “Color was a deep golden. The nose had barrel notes, earthy, and sweet with hints of baking spices. The flavor was sweet up front, notes of vanilla, cinnamon, with some bitterness, and some cooked agave. Finish is long and spicy.”
Our first release of Extra Añejo Agave Spirits was aged for a minimum of three years in Litchfield Distillery barrels. It is more of a sipping expression, although we have customers who love using it to build an Old Fashioned-style cocktail.
