The Batchers of Litchfield Distillery are a spirited crew. Beyond our passion for crafting exceptional products, we care deeply about making a positive impact in our local community and state. We hope our success will enable the success of others and invite more and more people to come visit Litchfield County.Here a few facts about our progress to date:Economic Impact: To rehabilitate and outfit the Litchfield Distillery building we spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on local trades, services and products. So far, we created 5 jobs; one job went to a senior citizen, one to a hard working single mom and one to a paid intern. Our intern is a young woman that recently graduated from UConn with a chemical engineering degree who was looking for hands-on experience before deciding on a graduate school. She is now a competent distiller and pursuing schools that specialize in brewing and distilling.Agriculture: We use hundreds of pounds of locally sourced grains every day. We are probably the largest user of local field products in Litchfield County. After distilling we return the spent grains, at no charge, to local farmers to feed livestock. In collaboration with a local bakery we developed a line of baked goods using our spent grains. In August, we will launch a new Blueberry Vodka using berries from a small farm in Washington CT.
Tourism: We have hosted hundreds and hundreds of weekend visitors since our opening. Many come from outside the county and arrive in Litchfield primarily to see Litchfield Distillery. We happily to refer them to local restaurants, shops, wineries and other local attractions.
Community: To date, we hosted about 20 events for non-profits and civic groups. For no charge we provide a unique venue that helps these community organizations engage their donors in a festive and inviting atmosphere. We donated product and money to many, many non-profits and are proud of our very thick “Thank You” note file.
The Litchfield Distillery crew is proud of what we accomplished in a short time—proud of our products, proud of our contribution to the community, proud to be in Litchfield CT.
