Litchfield Distillery Introduces Agave Spirits
The spiritual and agricultural home for Agave Spirits might historically be south of the border, but today Litchfield Distillery announced it now offers its own distinct Agave Spirits made right here in Litchfield, Connecticut.
The inspiration for the launch was born from a decision made earlier this year to add the Batcherita to its Ready-to-Drink Cocktail Can line. The Batcherita is the Distillery’s unique spin on a Margarita. It requires an agave-based spirit, agave being the plant Tequila is made from, and the distillery set out to produce its own.
“We imported agave nectar from Mexico to ferment and distill right here in Litchfield,” said David Baker, Co-Owner. “We liked what we made so much that we were intrigued to see how it would taste after resting some in our retired bourbon barrels. It was fantastic, so we bottled it to offer to our consumers.” After resting in barrels, the agave spirits developed even more complex and savory flavors. It is well-balanced between sweet and spicy, highlighted by notes of sweet caramel, earthy agave, white pepper and honey.
The Distillery sourced the finest organic agave syrup in the world from farms located in and around Capilla de Guadalupe, Mexico. The only raw material is 100% Blue Agave Tequilana Weber and its quality is exemplified by certifications that include USDA Organic, EU Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, Kosher, Halal, C-TPAT, FSSC 22000 and an UL-Social Audit.
“To the best of our knowledge, we think we’re the first distillery in Connecticut to manufacture Agave Spirits,” continued Baker. “We’re very satisfied with how smooth and full-bodied this spirit turned out. We’ve been enjoying sipping it neat as an apéritif or digestif.”
Litchfield Distillery Agave Spirits is bottled at 80 proof and sold in 750ML bottles. It is available for purchase at the Distillery and most retail stores that carry Litchfield Distillery spirits.
